Digital emergency evacuation accountability.

This project was built for Federal defense client with massive complex and one that has been recently the site of an active shooter. Following the active shooter incident in 2015, the client wanted to invest in a solution to help them quickly account for all employees in case of an emergency. The ask was to design and prototype a digital solution that could be deployed on mobile or tablet, as well as a web dashboard for employees who are critical to the accountability process. Our solution was AllClear, an SMS based check-in application that helps to quickly establish the safety of anyone within the system.

CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT

In the event of an emergency, the people responsible for the evacuation plan need the ability to allocate attention to the groups who need it most. For the tablet view, we enable users to see high level information about the units they are responsible for. On mobile, checking someone in is as easy as tapping one button. As employees respond to the SMS blast, they can check themselves in by responding "I'm Safe." which updates the AllClear database immediately. This enables leadership to see who has checked in, how they checked in, and if they have any special circumstances that need to be accounted for.

REPORT HELP NEEDED

In the event that a user is trapped within the building or otherwise communicates to a coworker or manager that they are unable to get out of the building safely, the supervisor responsible for checking them in can easily add a note to the user's profile which is then stored and shared with first responders when they arrive. This feature allows employees to keep the most up to date information about their teams and also to help inform priorities in first responder action.

EASY SCAN & GUESTS

Often times, employees have guests on site who are not part of the regular AllClear system. We solved for this issue by designing a "scan" feature which makes use of the badges that all employees must wear on site. Whenever a guest comes to campus, their sponsored escort adds them to their account. As soon as they are "cleared" as checked in, the supervisor can see any guests attached to the employee and confirm their safety as well.
